A total of 4,437 new lawyers have been formally called to the Bar by the Body of Benchers in Nigeria during a three-day ceremony held from September 23 to 25.
Of this number, 4,429 were candidates who successfully passed the June 2025 Bar Final Examinations, while an additional eight lawyers were drawn from previous sessions.
Delivering his report, the Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, Prof. Isa Hayatu Chiroma, SAN, revealed that 72 candidates graduated with First Class Honours, 608 with Second Class Upper, 2,098 with Second Class Lower, and 1,651 with a Pass. He emphasized the pivotal role of the Law School in producing judges, attorneys-general, law officers, and legal practitioners who have excelled both nationally and internationally.
In his address, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, former Chief Justice of Nigeria and Chairman of the Body of Benchers, charged the new lawyers to uphold the highest standards of professional ethics. He warned that the Bar would not condone misconduct or dishonourable practices.
Although a larger group of lawyers was called in July 2025, the September ceremony marked the official induction of the most recent cohort, who completed in February 2025.
