The one-week celebration of the late Ghanaian lawyer, Thomas Kwabena Opoku, who died just 22 days after being called to the Bar, has been scheduled for Wednesday, November 11, 2026.

The ceremony will take place at Ejisu Akyeremade in the Ashanti Region, from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with family members, friends, colleagues and sympathisers expected to attend.

Lawyer Opoku, who was also a hospital administrator, was among the lawyers called to the Ghana Bar on October 9, 2026.

However, just 22 days after achieving the milestone, he reportedly lost his life in a tragic accident on October 31, 2026.

His sudden passing has brought an abrupt end to a promising legal career, just weeks after he attained a professional qualification that required years of academic work, dedication and sacrifice.

Beyond his achievement in the legal profession, the late Opoku had also built a career in hospital administration, making his death a loss to both the legal and healthcare sectors.

His passing has attracted expressions of sorrow, including a tribute from a Nigerian lawyer who described the incident as a painful reminder of life's uncertainties.

In the tribute, the lawyer reflected on the years of commitment required to qualify for the legal profession and the sadness of losing a colleague so soon after achieving that goal.

The lawyer further expressed condolences to the bereaved family and the Ghanaian legal community, stressing that the legal profession extends beyond national boundaries and that the loss of a colleague affects the wider legal fraternity.

One-Week Celebration Arrangements

According to the announcement, the one-week observance will be held as follows:

Date: Wednesday, November 11, 2026

Venue: Ejisu Akyeremade, Ashanti Region

Time: 6:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

The late Thomas Kwabena Opoku was born in 1972 and died in 2026, aged approximately 54.

The bereaved family has extended an invitation to friends, colleagues and sympathisers to join them in observing the occasion and remembering his life.
