In accordance with Article 144 (2) of the Constitution, President Akufo-Addo in July nominated four justices for their appointment unto the Supreme Court bench.

The Appointments Committee of Parliament has approved the nomination of two Justices to the Supreme Court, out of the four who were nominated in July.

The justices approved are Justice Barbara Frances Ackah-Yensu and Justice Samuel Kwame Adibu Aseidu, both Justices from the Court of Appeal.

In its report submitted to the House, the committee said the nominees had demonstrated dexterity in the knowledge of the law, showed character and competence, and pledged to interpret the law without fear or favour.

“The Committee, therefore, recommends to the House by consensus, the approval of Justice Barbara Frances Ackah-Yensu and Justice Samuel Kwame Adibu Aseidu as Justices to the Supreme Court of Ghana. The Committee also requests the House to adopt its report and approve the nominees as Justices to the Supreme Court,” it said.

The nominees were Justices Barbara Frances Ackah-Yensu, George Kingsley Koomson, Samuel Kwame Adibu Asiedu from the Court of Appeal, and Justice Ernest Yao Gaewu from the High Court.

Their nomination was as a result of pending and projected vacancies at the Supreme Court.
