The Supreme Court has granted the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its parliamentary candidates for Okaikwei North, Ablekuma North, Tema Central, and Techiman South additional time to submit their response in an ongoing case involving the Electoral Commission (EC).
This development stems from a certiorari application filed by the NDC and its candidates, who are contesting how the EC managed the 2024 parliamentary election results in the aforementioned constituencies.
Earlier, the High Court in Accra ordered the EC to compile and officially declare the results for these areas. So far, the Commission has released the outcomes for all but Ablekuma North.
The NDC initially encountered difficulties in delivering court documents to the opposing New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidates. This prompted the Supreme Court to step in and approve substituted service to ensure proper legal communication.
At a hearing held on Thursday, April 3, legal representatives for the NDC requested more time to respond to the EC’s written arguments. Although the EC’s counsel, Justin Amenuvor, objected—citing that the seven-day response window had elapsed—the Court ultimately sided with the NDC, allowing them an additional week to file their reply.
The case will move forward once all parties have submitted their respective filings.
