The vetting of two Supreme Court nominees by the Appointments Committee of Parliament has been rescheduled.
The nominees, Justice Sophia Rosseta Bernasko Essah, a Court of Appeal Judge, and Professor Richard Frimpong Oppong, a legal academic and fellow of the Ghana Academy of Arts Sciences, were initially set to be vetted on Tuesday, July 30.
However, a disagreement between the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Minority and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Majority Members of the Committee led to a postponement.
The Vice Chairperson of the Appointments Committee, Mrs. Patricia Appiagyei, suspended the committee's session for further discussions.
After consultations, Mrs. Appiagyei addressed the Parliamentary Press Corps, explaining that the committee had initially been unprepared to proceed with the vetting due to procedural misunderstandings. This resulted in the suspension of the session.
She emphasized that the new date was agreed upon after thorough consultations.
