The paper will discuss the subject matter under three main titles – big wins, problematic wins and failures that will hunt us.

Fellow of the London School of Economics (LSE) Law School, Dr. Maame Abena Siem Mensa-Bonsu will on February 23, 2023 present a paper, discussing constitutional decisions that the Supreme Court of Ghana has handed down since 2012.

Fixed on the topic, ‘Should we still trust in the Judges? Lessons from Ghana’s third decade of Judicial Review’, the seminar is being hosted by the GIMPA Faculty of Law under its workshop/colloquium series.

The paper will also discuss the subject matter under three main titles – big wins, problematic wins and failures that will hunt us.

“The big wins advance our constitutional journey and bring us more closer to the just more equal society that the 1992 Constitution envisions. The problematic wins are so named because though their outcomes are pleasing, the reasoning upon which they are based is jurisprudentially untenable. The failures will haunt us for, in terms of both jurisprudence and precedent, they are nothing short of disastrous.

The paper concludes by setting out the trends and patterns discernible from this body of judicial works and leaves the reader with lessons to reflect on,” the abstract to the paper reads.
