The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has ordered Nutrifoods Ghana Limited to immediately cease production of its Tasty Tom Enriched Tomato Mix after uncovering serious lapses in health and safety standards at the company’s factory.
In a statement released on Sunday, August 3, the FDA explained that this suspension follows an earlier recall of all canned versions of the tomato mix, along with certain pouch sizes—specifically the 380g and 1.05kg packs.
The decision comes in the wake of several consumer complaints that led to an official investigation. The FDA’s inspection team discovered poorly maintained equipment and a failure to put in place proper monitoring systems to safeguard the quality and safety of the product.
