The Accra Circuit Court 2, presided over by His Honour Isaac Addo, has sentenced a 19-year-old unemployed man, Rashid Aziz, to 24 months in prison after he admitted to charges of conspiracy, unlawful entry, and stealing.
His co-accused, Nelson Godwin Ezel, 20, who also has no fixed employment, pleaded not guilty to the same charges and has been remanded into police custody pending trial.
The charges stem from a burglary incident that occurred on May 15, 2025, in Madina, a suburb of the Greater Accra Region.
Presenting the case, Chief Inspector Jonas Lawer told the court that the two young men unlawfully entered the home of Fati Ahmed with the intention to steal. The accused allegedly made off with several valuables, including:
An iPhone 11 Pro Max worth GH¢5,500
A Samsung tablet valued at GH¢1,200
Jewellery — necklaces, bracelets, and earrings — collectively worth GH¢3,000
Cash amounting to GH¢3,000
The total value of the stolen items was estimated at GH¢12,700.
During his first appearance, Rashid Aziz pleaded guilty simpliciter (without explanation), prompting the court to convict and sentence him on the spot to two years' imprisonment.
