The accused pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to commit a crime, namely stealing, when she appeared before the Adenta Circuit Court for the second time on Friday.

A 23-year-old student, Ohemaa Serwaa Abigail Owusu Ansah, has denied involvement in the alleged theft of GH¢1.5 million from the residence of Bishop Daniel Obinim, founder of the International Godsway Church.

The accused pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to commit a crime, namely stealing, when she appeared before the Adenta Circuit Court for the second time on Friday.

At her first appearance, the court granted her bail in the sum of GH¢1 million with two sureties, one of whom must justify the bail with landed property. Her plea was deferred until the subsequent hearing.

Presenting the prosecution's case, Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo told the court that the accused was a friend of Bishop Obinim and had visited his residence at Lakeside on October 13, 2026.

According to the prosecution, the two were having a conversation in the bishop's room when he left for church, leaving the accused at the residence.

The following morning, at approximately 7 a.m., Bishop Obinim allegedly discovered that his safe had been broken into and GH¢1.5 million was missing.

The prosecution said that when the bishop confronted the accused about the missing money, she allegedly disclosed that she had contacted a worker of her father, identified only as Owusu, who arranged for two young men to visit the residence.

She is alleged to have led the men into the bishop's room and directed them to the safe.

According to the prosecution, the two men subsequently broke open the safe, removed the money and left the premises.

Chief Inspector Lanyo further told the court that the accused was arrested on October 16, 2026, at about 2 p.m. and taken to the headquarters of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

The prosecution alleged that in her caution statement to investigators, the accused admitted inviting the two men to Bishop Obinim's residence to break into the safe and steal the money.

Despite the alleged admission attributed to her by the prosecution, the accused denied the charge when she appeared before the court.

The prosecution indicated that investigations were ongoing.

The court has yet to determine the allegations against the accused, who remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
