In a statement issued on Sunday, November 1, 2026, the Commission disclosed that the arrest resulted from a coordinated operation involving drug enforcement agencies in Ghana and Lebanon.

A Syrian national has been arrested in Lebanon in connection with an alleged attempt to traffic approximately 40 kilogrammes of suspected cocaine from Ghana.

The suspect was apprehended at the Rafic Hariri International Airport in Beirut on Saturday, October 31, 2026, after arriving on a flight from Accra.

According to the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), the suspected narcotics were concealed in two pieces of luggage belonging to the traveller.

In a statement issued on Sunday, November 1, 2026, the Commission disclosed that the arrest resulted from a coordinated operation involving drug enforcement agencies in Ghana and Lebanon.

NACOC explained that the exercise was conducted through a controlled delivery operation, a law enforcement technique intended to track suspected illicit consignments and identify individuals involved in their movement and distribution.

The operation was designed not only to intercept the shipment but also to gather intelligence on the wider criminal network believed to be responsible for the attempted trafficking.

According to the Commission, cooperation between Ghanaian and Lebanese authorities enabled investigators to monitor the movement of the suspected narcotics and apprehend the individual upon arrival in Beirut.

NACOC further disclosed that investigations were ongoing to identify other persons who may have assisted in arranging or facilitating the shipment from Ghana.

The Commission indicated that efforts were underway to locate and arrest suspected accomplices within the country as part of measures to dismantle the alleged transnational drug trafficking network.

It described the operation as a demonstration of the importance of international cooperation and intelligence-sharing in combating organised drug-related crimes.

NACOC reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with Lebanese authorities and other international law enforcement agencies to disrupt illicit drug trafficking and ensure that persons involved are brought before the appropriate judicial authorities.

The identity of the arrested Syrian national has not been disclosed, while details concerning the suspected narcotics and the broader investigation remain limited.

The Commission has also not announced any arrests in Ghana directly connected to the shipment.

Investigations into the alleged trafficking operation are continuing.
