Shadrack Cobbinah was convicted by the Tarkwa District Magistrate Court One on his own plea.

A 19-year-old unemployed man has been sentenced to five years’ imprisonment with hard labour after admitting that he entered a nurse’s room and stole her iPhone XR and cash.

Shadrack Cobbinah was convicted by the Tarkwa District Magistrate Court One on his own plea.

He had pleaded guilty to unlawful entry and stealing.

The court was presided over by Bernice Mensimah Ackon.

Police Sergeant Adwoa Yeboah, prosecuting, told the court that the complainant, Bernice Xornam Beble, lives at Nkamponase, while Cobbinah resides at Tarkwa Railway Station.

According to the prosecution, the complainant woke up at about 1:40 a.m. on May 16, 2026, and realised that her door had been opened.

She later discovered that her iPhone XR, valued at GH¢2,500, and GH¢5,700 in cash had been stolen from her room.

The prosecution said Cobbinah was spotted later that same day attempting to sell the same iPhone.

He was picked up and handed over to police.

At the police station, officers retrieved GH¢3,000 from him.

During interrogation, Cobbinah admitted stealing the phone and money.

He also named one Michell, who is currently at large, as his accomplice.

The prosecution said Cobbinah, however, claimed he took only the iPhone XR and GH¢4,000, not the full GH¢5,700 reported by the complainant.

The court convicted him on his guilty plea and sentenced him to five years in prison with hard labour.
