Fifty-two (52) new Circuit Court judges have been sworn in at a brief ceremony in Accra. The group comprises forty (40) judges elevated from various District Courts across the country, as well as twelve (12) legal practitioners who have met the legally stipulated criteria and have successfully completed the recruitment process.
In his address, the Chief Justice, His Lordship Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, told the new judges that delivering justice in 2026 requires confident engagement with digital systems and artificial intelligence, not treating them as optional add-ons.
He noted that courts are increasingly driven by technology and that the Judiciary’s operational model is shifting towards faster, clearer, and more accountable processes.
Justice Baffoe-Bonnie said the Judicial Service is investing in digital reforms designed to improve efficiency, transparency, and access to justice. He pointed to tools now embedded in everyday court work, including:
case-tracking systems
electronic recording of proceedings
digital court lists
The Chief Justice observed that while older generations of judges had to adjust to the introduction of ICT, newly appointed judges are entering a system where technology is already integrated, and where AI is now part of the judicial landscape.
He urged the new judges to see technology as a performance enabler rather than an administrative burden, stressing that effective use of digital tools can reduce delays, strengthen records management, improve case monitoring, and build public confidence.
