Addressing the media on Monday, March 24, the Minister clarified that the action is not intended as a punishment but rather as a window for the affected stations to address compliance issues and meet licensing standards.

The Minister for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has disclosed that 57 radio stations are at risk of having their broadcasting frequencies suspended due to breaches of regulatory guidelines.

Addressing the media on Monday, March 24, the Minister clarified that the action is not intended as a punishment but rather as a window for the affected stations to address compliance issues and meet licensing standards.

Samuel George noted that this move follows the suspension of six stations, out of which three have already taken corrective steps and are set to have their frequencies reinstated.

“These six stations are part of a broader group of about 63 that are under review. We're not revoking frequencies; we're suspending them temporarily to encourage compliance. Media freedom doesn't mean exemption from regulatory obligations,” he explained.

He further assured that stations under the first phase of enforcement have been given ample opportunity to resolve outstanding issues.

“Three out of the six initially suspended have submitted the necessary documents to the regulator. I will be authorizing the restoration of their frequencies accordingly,” he added.
