A circuit court at Asante Abuakwa has ordered the remand of a 43-year-old farmer accused of raping a hearing-impaired woman along a bush path in the Ahafo Ano South-West District.
Abdulai Yussif, who denied the charge when he appeared before the court presided over by Rosemond Dodua Agyiri, is expected to reappear on 11 December.
Presenting the facts, Detective Chief Inspector Samuel Kyei Baffour told the court that the 40-year-old victim, Yaa Agbavaon, lives with her grandmother at Afreseni near Mankranso.
According to the prosecution, the incident occurred on the morning of 14 July while the victim was walking to her grandmother’s farm. She reportedly noticed Yussif trailing her and stepped aside to allow him to pass. Instead, the accused allegedly seized her, dragged her into nearby bushes, forcibly stripped her and raped her.
He is said to have handed her a GH¢200 note afterwards and warned her not to disclose the assault.
The prosecutor said the distressed woman continued to the farm and informed her grandmother, who subsequently reported the matter to the Mankranso Police.
Yussif was later arrested, and investigators say he admitted the act in his caution statement.
He has since been charged and remanded as police complete their inquiries.
