Attorney General and Minister of Justice Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine has tasked the newly inaugurated Legal Service Board to prioritize negotiations for improved salaries for legal staff at the Attorney General’s Department.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony in Accra, Dr. Ayine stressed that poor remuneration continues to undermine efficiency and fuel high attrition within the justice sector.
The Attorney General noted that many young lawyers view the ministry as a training ground before moving on to better-paying opportunities, a trend that threatens the ministry’s capacity.
“It is one thing to attract them, but another to retain them,” he warned.
Strengthening the Legal Service
Dr. Ayine, who also chairs the Legal Service Board, charged members to provide strategic direction, oversight, and leadership to build the capacity of officers and raise professionalism.
