In an interview on Channel One TV on February 22nd, Lawyer Banson stressed that Kumi’s conviction still stands on record, with only the sentencing pending.
Legal practitioner and lecturer, Bobby Banson has advised Ernest Kumi, the Akwatia Member of Parliament, to voluntarily appear in court after a bench warrant was issued for his arrest.
The warrant came about when Kumi did not adhere to an interim injunction that barred him from taking the oath of office.
In an interview on Channel One TV on February 22nd, Banson stressed that Kumi’s conviction still stands on record, with only the sentencing pending. Given that bench warrants are intended for immediate execution, Banson suggested that Kumi, along with his legal counsel, should proactively present himself in court and submit all pertinent legal documents.
Bobby also indicated that if Kumi provides the necessary paperwork, the presiding judge might consider postponing the sentencing to allow a full review of all outstanding applications. This potential delay could enable a more detailed legal evaluation of the case before any final decision is reached.
By choosing to appear voluntarily and furnish the court with the required documentation, Kumi may be able to sidestep the immediate consequences of the bench warrant and ensure that every legal aspect is thoroughly examined.
