The High Court in Accra has granted bail to Salifu and Mouha Amoako, the parents of Elrad Amoako, in connection with a car accident in East Legon, Greater Accra Region, which claimed two lives.
The couple was arrested on October 15 and charged with allowing an unlicensed person to operate a vehicle. A third individual, Linda Bempah, a sales assistant at Lilo Stitches, was also granted bail.
During the hearing on October 16, the prosecution revealed that Salifu and Mouha admitted to letting their son, Elrad, use their car for trips to the gym and other locations, despite him not having a license. Additionally, it was disclosed that Linda Bempah handed Elrad the keys to the Jaguar, which belonged to Mouha Amoako.
Defense attorneys argued for bail, citing the stable employment, community ties, and low flight risk of the accused. They emphasized that there was no intent to interfere with the investigation or reoffend.
The prosecution did not object to the bail request but called for strict conditions given the gravity of the charges.
Ultimately, the judge granted bail at ¢50,000 for each of the accused, stressing the need for their continued cooperation with the court proceedings.
