Nana Esuon Abonyi Kwaata II, the Asihene of Gomoa Ajumako and Chief of Gomoa Brofoyedur, is championing a bold new move to combat irresponsible parenting, particularly targeting absentee and neglectful fathers.
During a Father’s Day event at Brofoyedur in the Gomoa Central District, the traditional leader revealed that the Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Council is working on new bylaws aimed at protecting children from abandonment and paternal neglect.
He lamented a rising trend, especially in urban areas, where fathers distance themselves from parental duties, leaving mothers to single-handedly shoulder the financial and emotional burden of raising children.
Nana Kwaata highlighted that the Brofoyedurman Council already holds an annual stakeholders’ forum to address pressing child welfare issues. The forum brings together chiefs, students, and parents, and allows especially mothers and children to voice concerns about matters such as education, housing, and well-being.
Calling on the media to play an active role in the campaign, he urged journalists to use Father’s Day to sensitize the public—particularly negligent fathers—on their roles in shaping the future of their children.
He concluded with advice to young men and prospective fathers, urging them to plan their families wisely to avoid creating hardship and emotional trauma, especially for mothers.
