The meeting, held on Wednesday, was framed by the Chief Justice as a formal courtesy call to thank the Ministry of Finance for ongoing support to the courts.

The Chief Justice, Justice Paul Baffoe Bonnie, has held talks with the Finance Minister, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, in Accra, in a move officials say is aimed at tightening coordination between the Judiciary and the Executive.

The meeting, held on Wednesday, was framed by the Chief Justice as a formal courtesy call to thank the Ministry of Finance for ongoing support to the courts.

Justice Baffoe Bonnie used the engagement to flag court congestion as a key bottleneck affecting justice delivery, saying interventions are being developed to ease pressure across the system. He also raised broader concerns about working conditions within the Judiciary, arguing that stronger institutional backing is needed to improve efficiency and outcomes.

Dr Forson, for his part, said the Finance Ministry would continue to work closely with the Judiciary and the Ministry of Justice to tackle operational constraints in the courts.

He disclosed that one proposal under review is to allow the Judiciary to retain and use 100% of its Internally Generated Funds (IGF) to respond faster to urgent needs and reduce operational friction.

Also at the meeting were:

Justice Gabriel Scott Pwamang (Supreme Court Judge)

Prof. Raymond Atuguba (Acting Director, Ghana School of Law)

Ahmed Musah (Judicial Secretary)

Dr Dominic Ayine (Attorney-General and Minister for Justice)

The discussions form part of broader efforts to align resources, governance support and operational execution across the justice delivery value chain.
