The affected courts include the Bolgatanga High Court and Circuit Court, as well as the District Courts in Bolgatanga, Zuarungu, Zebilla, Garu, and Bongo.

Chief Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo has ordered the immediate closure of seven courts in Bawku and nearby communities.

The affected courts include the Bolgatanga High Court and Circuit Court, as well as the District Courts in Bolgatanga, Zuarungu, Zebilla, Garu, and Bongo.

This directive follows recent unrest in Bawku, largely fueled by Seidu Abagre, who was controversially appointed as Bawku Naba in February 2023. Though his position lacks official legal recognition, his presence has heightened tensions among opposing factions, resulting in multiple violent clashes and 16 fatalities.

In a statement released on Tuesday, October 29, the Judicial Secretary explained that the closures aim to protect Judges, court staff, lawyers, and the public. The registrars have been instructed to secure all court property, and staff members have been advised to prioritize their safety.
