While administering the oath, Justice Anin Yeboah charged the newly appointed notaries public to conduct themselves in a manner worthy of officers of the court.

The Chief Justice, His Lordship Kwasi Anin Yeboah has today, February 18, 2022, sworn-in 53 new notaries public at a brief ceremony at the Supreme Court in Accra.

While administering the oath, Justice Anin Yeboah charged the newly appointed notaries public to conduct themselves in a manner worthy of officers of the court.

Also present at the event were Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, the Judicial Secretary, Justice Cynthia Pamela Addo, and National Secretary of the Ghana Bar Association, Gyau Baffour.

A notary public is a person permitted by the state to administer oaths, certify documents, attest to the authenticity of signatures, and perform official acts in commercial matters.

Under the Notaries Public Act, 1960 (Act 26) the Chief Justice can appoint any person he considers fit and proper to discharge the duties assigned to that office.

The practice has therefore been to appoint a lawyer of high standing, and one with not less than 10 years experience in practice.
