The Public Office Holders (Declaration of Assets and Disqualification) Act, of 1998 (Act 550) mandates public officials to declare their assets and liabilities upon assuming office.

President John Mahama has issued a firm reminder to his appointees—including Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Chief Executive Officers (CEOs), and their deputies—about their obligation to comply with the country’s asset declaration law.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of 13 Deputy Ministers and a Minister of State at the Presidency in Accra, the President emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in governance.

The Public Office Holders (Declaration of Assets and Disqualification) Act, of 1998 (Act 550) mandates public officials to declare their assets and liabilities upon assuming office. This requirement is designed to promote integrity, prevent corruption, and detect any illicit enrichment or conflicts of interest.

President Mahama stressed that asset declaration is not limited to ministers but extends to heads of government institutions, urging those newly appointed to fulfill their obligations promptly.

The President also highlighted the role of Madam Lydia Lamisi Akanvariba, the newly appointed Minister of State in charge of Public Sector Reform. She will work under the Presidential Special Advisor on Governmental Affairs to drive key reforms and enhance efficiency in Ghana’s public service.

Addressing the Deputy Ministers, Mahama reminded them that their responsibilities go beyond merely assisting substantive ministers. He emphasized that he expects them to uphold the highest standards of diligence, accountability, and service to the nation.

Additionally, he advised them to be mindful of their travel plans, ensuring that all official trips outside the country pass the "essential travel test" and receive approval from the Office of the Chief of Staff.

Reflecting on the urgency of their roles, Mahama reminded the appointees that elected officials operate within a limited timeframe and must work at a fast pace to deliver results.

On behalf of the newly sworn-in officials, Madam Lydia Lamisi Akanvariba expressed gratitude to the President for the opportunity to serve. She assured him of their commitment to contributing to the government's vision and driving meaningful reforms for national progress.
