The Attorney General, Godfred Yeboah Dame has directed state prosecutors in charge of the recent democracy hub protest case to consider relevant bail applications for the remanded persons at the next adjourned date.

He further called for a swift investigation into the case so as to excuse against whom relevant evidence cannot be found to support their prosecutions.

The Circuit Court has so far remanded about 53 protestors of the Democracy Hub's #Stopgalamseynow demonstration waiting to re-appear in court on October 8.

The list includes a key organizer, Oliver Barker-Vormawor who is facing eight charges, including theft, defacement of public notices, and conduct likely to disturb public peace.

Speaking at the 43rd Conference of the Association of Magistrates and Judges of Ghana(AMJG) the Attorney General advised demonstrators to exercise their constitutional right within the confines of the law.

He cautioned against taking the nation’s democracy for granted adding that the Judiciary should not allow any such crimes to go unpunished.

Additionally, Mr Dame praised the Judiciary for being an indispensable part of the nation’s democracy by rising up to resolve complicated social and political issues presented before it.

Following from the above, he thus charged the Judiciary to continually act as a neutral arbiter in cases in the broad interests of the nation.

The theme for this year’s conference is “Improving the Security and Welfare of the Judiciary for Effective Justice Delivery.”
