Presided over by Justice Barbara Tetteh-Charway, the court concluded that FSG's claims were unfounded, referring to them as a "red herring."
The High Court has dismissed the lawsuit filed by Food Sovereignty Ghana (FSG), the Convention People’s Party, the Vegetarian Association of Ghana, and Goaso Kanyan Akuafo Kuo against the National Biosafety Authority (NBA) and four other entities concerning the introduction of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) in Ghana.
Presided over by Justice Barbara Tetteh-Charway, the court concluded that FSG's claims were unfounded, referring to them as a "red herring" owing to its failure to show the correlation between their demands and the commercialization of cowpea in Ghana.
On May 6, 2024, the court dismissed an injunction application by Food Sovereignty Ghana.
The court per its judgment directed the NBA to continue public education through media and publications and collaborate with relevant regulatory authorities to finalize GM product labeling guidelines before any commercialization.
Additionally, the NBA is also required to publish data on the importation of GM cowpea on the Biosafety Clearing House and label all GM products on the market to inform public choice.
