Court halts family's possession of Regimanuel Gray Estate

The estate community, usually known for its calm atmosphere, had in recent weeks been thrown into tension.

The High Court in Accra has set aside a writ of possession earlier granted to the Numo Kofi Anum family of Tesa/Teshie. The court has also suspended the enforcement of its March 2024 judgment until the outcome of an appeal.

Background of the Dispute

The estate community, usually known for its calm atmosphere, had in recent weeks been thrown into tension. Following the March judgment, members of the Numo Kofi Anum family and their agents stormed the estate with a writ of possession, leading to demolitions, confrontations, and fear among homeowners.

Amid the escalating situation, Regimanuel Gray Limited challenged the writ, arguing that many residents—innocent third parties who were not part of the original case—were never served notice.

Court’s Decision

In its ruling, Justice Kenneth Edem Kudjordjie stressed that the purpose of court judgments is to promote clarity, certainty, peace, and justice.

He noted that if enforcement of a judgment creates confusion rather than justice, the court may exercise its discretion to intervene.

In a statement, management of Regimanuel Gray Limited welcomed the ruling, describing it as a vital step in restoring peace and order to the estate. The company insisted that the Numo Kofi Anum family had gone beyond the scope of the court’s order by carrying out demolitions and intimidating residents.

According to the statement, the family’s actions between late June and August 2025 transformed a legal matter into a climate of fear. Residents were confronted with bulldozers, heated confrontations, and threats, forcing families to stay indoors and leaving children confined to their homes.

The company reaffirmed its commitment to protecting residents who are “innocent purchasers for value without notice” and to ensuring that justice is upheld as the appeal process continues.
