According to Police Chief Inspector John Brahene, officers responded to a distress call from an anonymous source reporting a violent attack on a pregnant woman along Mount Mary Road in Somanya. Upon arrival, the police found Angmortey physically assaulting Amedi and immediately took him into custody.
The victim, who is six months pregnant, suffered severe injuries, including a swollen forehead and bleeding from her lips, neck, and ears. She was issued a police medical form and rushed to Yilo Krobo District Hospital for treatment.
Inspector Brahene revealed that Amedi had moved in with her aunt a month prior due to escalating abuse from the accused. During police interrogation, Angmortey claimed he suspected his girlfriend of infidelity and, in a fit of rage, stormed her aunt’s house to confront and assault her.
Checks at the Yilo Krobo District Hospital confirmed that the unborn child was unharmed despite the severity of the attack. Meanwhile, the incident has sparked public outrage, with community members and authorities calling for justice and stronger measures against domestic violence.
Authorities have condemned the act, emphasizing the urgent need to address rising cases of domestic abuse and ensure better protection for vulnerable individuals.
