The suspects, both residents of Abura Baaware, were initially granted bail set at GH¢10,000 with three sureties each.

The Cape Coast Circuit Court II has ordered the detention of two unemployed men, Adjei Mensah, 20, and Philip Ackon, 25, for their alleged involvement in a knife-point robbery of two sisters in Abura, a suburb of Cape Coast.

The suspects, both residents of Abura Baaware, were initially granted bail set at GH¢10,000 with three sureties each. However, they failed to meet the conditions, leading to their continued detention. Their next court appearance is scheduled for Friday, February 28.

Presenting the case, Prosecutor Inspector Joseph Laare explained that the complainant, 19-year-old Rosemary Bortier, who works as a shop attendant and resides in Abura Academy, was returning home with her elder sister, Olivia Bortier, on the morning of Tuesday, October 24, 2024, around 7:05 AM.

As they walked near the Abura market, Mensah reportedly emerged from a nearby bush, brandished a knife, and confronted Rosemary, demanding her phone. Shortly after, Ackon joined him, restraining Olivia while Mensah forcibly seized Rosemary’s Tecno Spark 7, valued at GH¢2,000.

Recognizing Mensah, Rosemary called out his name. In response, he grabbed her left finger, twisted it, and fled the scene with the stolen phone. The sisters ran toward the community, calling for help, and were assisted by residents in reporting the incident to the Abura Police Station. A medical form was subsequently issued for Rosemary to seek treatment.

Following investigations, police apprehended Mensah and Ackon from their hideouts on October 31, 2024. The stolen mobile phone was later recovered in Akotokyir through police intelligence. However, efforts are still ongoing to track down the individual who received the stolen device, as he remains at large.
