The High Court in Koforidua has dismissed an election petition seeking to overturn the victory of New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate Frank Asiedu Bekoe, widely known as Protozoa, as Member of Parliament for Suhum.
The petition was brought by independent candidate Kwadjo Asante, who contested the 2024 parliamentary election in the constituency. He had asked the court to nullify the declared results and order a fresh poll, alleging various irregularities in the conduct of the election.
In its judgment, the court held that Mr Asante had not produced sufficient, credible evidence to substantiate the claims contained in his petition.
On that basis, the judge affirmed the Electoral Commission’s declaration of Mr Asiedu Bekoe as the duly elected MP for Suhum.
The court underscored that while electoral laws provide an avenue for candidates to challenge results, such disputes must be backed by solid proof and grounded firmly in both fact and law.
