The latest variation, granted on Thursday, 11 December, represents a sharp drop from the previous figure of GH¢630 million.

The High Court has again reduced the bail sum for former Executive Director of the National Service Authority (NSA), Osei Assibey Antwi, cutting it to GH¢120 million with two sureties.

The latest variation, granted on Thursday, 11 December, represents a sharp drop from the previous figure of GH¢630 million. Mr Assibey Antwi was initially admitted to bail in the sum of GH¢800 million before the court twice revised the amount downward on applications from his lawyers.

Under the new terms, the two sureties are each required to justify their status with landed property valued at GH¢80 million. All existing non-monetary conditions remain unchanged: his passport is to stay in the custody of the court, and he remains on a no-flight list, barring him from travelling outside Ghana while the case is pending.

Mr Assibey Antwi is facing charges including stealing, money laundering and causing financial loss to the state. Prosecutors opposed any reduction, arguing that the seriousness of the offences—particularly the stealing charge, which carries a possible 25-year custodial sentence—justified the earlier, higher bail thresholds.

Defence counsel countered that the previous bail sums were unduly onerous and practically impossible to meet, amounting in effect to a refusal of bail. They have welcomed the court’s latest decision as a move towards greater fairness and balance in the ongoing proceedings.
