The Ministry of the Interior has announced a dusk-to-dawn curfew for Binduri Township and nearby communities in the Upper East Region, starting Monday, March 24, 2025.
The curfew, which is in effect from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM, comes in response to recent acts of violence, including shootings that have raised serious safety concerns.
The decision, taken under Executive Instrument, follows recommendations from the Regional Security Councils of both the Upper East and North East regions. Authorities are appealing to traditional leaders, community elders, and the youth to remain calm and seek peaceful ways of resolving tensions.
As part of heightened security measures, the Interior Ministry has also imposed a complete ban on the possession of firearms, ammunition, and other dangerous weapons within the affected areas. In addition, the wearing of smocks by men and the use of motorbikes have been prohibited, as these have reportedly been used in previous disturbances.
Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak called on residents to support security personnel in their efforts to restore peace. Law enforcement officers have been deployed to maintain order and enforce the new regulations.
Officials emphasized that the restrictions are temporary and aimed at preventing further unrest while long-term peace-building efforts continue.
