The Ministry of the Interior has imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew on Bole Township and its surrounding communities in the Savannah Region following renewed chieftaincy tensions that have heightened security concerns.
In a statement signed by Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the curfew — which runs from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am daily — takes effect Wednesday, August 27, 2025, and will remain in force until further notice.
The Ministry said the measure, backed by an Executive Instrument on the advice of the National Security Council, is aimed at restoring calm and preventing further disturbances.
Residents have been cautioned to strictly observe the restrictions. These include:
A ban on carrying firearms, ammunition, or offensive weapons, with offenders warned they will face arrest and prosecution.
A prohibition on riding motorbikes in pairs or groups, aimed at curbing possible clashes.
A ban on wearing war regalia, even during the daytime.
The Ministry urged chiefs, opinion leaders, and the youth to remain calm and resolve grievances through peaceful, non-violent means.
“Government continues to urge chiefs, opinion leaders, youth, and people of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them and to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace in the area,” the statement stressed.
The curfew follows land dispute tensions that have escalated into potential security threats in Bole and its environs. Authorities say security agencies remain on high alert to maintain law and order.
