The oath-taking took place at the Manhyia Palace on Monday, 19 January 2026. Following the ceremony, he assumed the stool name Daasebre Osei Bonsu III, becoming the Asante Mamponghene.

The new Mamponghene, Daasebre Osei Bonsu III, known in private parlance as Leslie Nkansah Osei Bonsu, has formally sworn the oath of allegiance to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and has been gazetted as the new Paramount Chief of Asante Mampong.

The oath-taking took place at the Manhyia Palace on Monday, 19 January 2026. Following the ceremony, he assumed the stool name Daasebre Osei Bonsu III, becoming the Asante Mamponghene.

During the event, chiefs from across the Asante Kingdom urged the new traditional ruler to make peace, unity and collaboration central to his leadership, describing them as critical to development in the Mampong traditional area.

They also cautioned him to maintain a tough stance against illegal mining, a position associated with his predecessor, the late Daasebre Osei Bonsu II.

In response, Daasebre Osei Bonsu III pledged to continue the legacy of his predecessor and said he would work to promote stability and development in Asante Mampong.

He becomes the 17th occupant of the Asante Mampong Silver Stool, a role widely regarded as the second most senior traditional office in the Asante Kingdom when the Asantehene is absent.

After the ceremony, queen mothers within the Mampong Traditional Council told local media they were confident in his leadership and pledged their support.

Kingmakers, together with the Mampong Queen Mother, had earlier presented Mr Osei Bonsu to the Asantehene as nominee for the stool on 18 December 2025.
