Barker-Vormawor and another protester, Fanny Otoo, were absent from court on September 25 due to illness and were being treated at the Police Hospital.

The Accra Circuit Court has ordered the remand of Oliver Barker-Vormawor, a key organizer of the #FixTheCountry movement, along with 11 other demonstrators following their participation in the recent #StopGalamseyNow demonstration led by the Democracy Hub, which spanned three days.

This brings the total number of remanded protesters to 51.

Barker-Vormawor faces eight charges, including theft, defacement of public notices, and conduct likely to disturb public peace.

On Thursday, September 26, Barker-Vormawor appeared in court and pleaded not guilty to all eight charges leveled against him.

His legal team sought bail, citing health concerns and arguing that the police hospital lacked the proper facilities to adequately care for him.

They also contested the charge of unlawful assembly, insisting that the protest was both legal and within their constitutional rights.

In response, the state prosecutor acknowledged the possibility of a lawful assembly but maintained that the demonstrators engaged in illegal activities during the protest.

Additionally, the prosecutor rejected claims that the protesters were deprived of food while in custody, asserting that the police had provided meals.

The case is scheduled to continue on October 8.
