According to her, such a practice is unbecoming of a lawyer, and the right thing to do is to write to the Attorney General’s Department about the issue.
A Deputy Attorney General of the Republic of Ghana, Ms. Dianah Asonaba-Dapaah, has cautioned lawyers who participated in defending protestors in the recent Democracy Hub demonstration against using social media to report on their unlocated or hard-to-locate clients.
According to her, such a practice is unbecoming of a lawyer, and the right thing to do is to write to the Attorney General’s Office about the issue.
After the police arrest of over 51 democracy hub protestors, there were various complaints by lawyers of their difficulty in locating their clients to offer their services.
Therefore in an Interview on Pure FM on September 30, Miss Dapaah noted that the Attorney General’s Office is widely open to help assist any such lawyer to address the issue.
“If you are a lawyer and you cannot locate your client as some are alleging, do not search for the search client on social media. Write to the Attorney General’s Office. Our doors are open to assist you.”
Police Professionalism
The Deputy Attorney General commended the Ghana Police Service for their level of professionalism exhibited during the recent #Stopgalamseydemo and urged them to maintain the standard.
Arrest of Protestors
She also took time to address the varied negative comments relative to the arrest of the protestors indicating that the government does not frown on protests and that protestors should not be allowed to use that right as a façade to perpetuate any illegality.
Comments by Political leaders
Furthermore, Miss Dapaah condemned comments by politicians relative to the recent arrests noting that they only show a lack of knowledge on the right to protest.
