A fierce confrontation has erupted between Dr. Grace Ayensu Danquah and the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) over her academic credentials and right to be called “Professor.”

In a strongly worded letter dated August 13, her legal team, led by David K. Ametefe, accused GTEC of bias, impropriety, and overstepping its authority.

They described the Commission’s tone and conduct as “abrasive, unnecessarily combative, and disparaging,” arguing that a statutory regulator should act with professionalism and impartiality under the Education Regulatory Bodies Act, 2020 (Act 1023).

At the heart of the controversy is GTEC’s assessment of Dr. Ayensu Danquah’s entitlement to use the academic title. Her lawyers insist the Commission’s findings were baseless and carried out without transparency.

They further argue that the process lacked clarity on which legal framework guided the decision, raising fears of procedural irregularity and reputational damage.
