The Adabraka District Court has fined a driver, Evans Amankwa, GH¢600 after he admitted to careless and inconsiderate driving that left a passenger injured.

Police said the incident happened on February 2, 2026, around 10:07 p.m. Amankwa was driving a Daewoo Matiz saloon car (GW 920-20) from Lapaz towards Kasoa.

When he got to the McCarthy Hill traffic light and tried to move from the service lane onto the highway, he allegedly failed to take proper care and drove into the middle lane. An articulated truck coming from the Odorkor direction then hit the rear of his car.

The impact, according to the prosecution, pushed the Matiz into the opposite lane, where it was crushed against a trailer approaching from the Kasoa direction.

Both Amankwa and his passenger, Edmund Wisdom Azumah Kwaku, were injured and rushed to the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Hospital for treatment. Police told the court that Amankwa later paid the passenger’s medical bills.

He pleaded guilty and was fined 50 penalty units, equal to GH¢600.
