The Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD-UBIDS) in the Upper West Region has marked a landmark achievement by graduating its inaugural class of Bachelor of Laws (LLB) students at a special ceremony held on its Wa campus.
The event drew esteemed guests from Ghana’s legal and academic sectors. Delivering the keynote, Ghana Bar Association President, Mrs. Efua Ghartey, praised the legal profession as both rewarding and joyful. She congratulated the graduates, urging them to stay dedicated to justice and their legal journeys.
Currently, the university’s School of Law enrolls 464 students—317 men and 147 women. This year’s graduating cohort included 61 students (55 men, 6 women) out of 64 eligible candidates.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Emmanuel Deribile used the occasion to spotlight the university’s ongoing infrastructure challenges. He announced the launch of the Accelerated Completion of GETFund Infrastructure Initiative—a bold plan to finish long-stalled projects such as a library, lecture halls, an office complex, auditorium, and student hostel, many of which have been under construction for over a decade due to funding shortfalls.
“Innovative financing is essential if we are to finalize these facilities promptly,” Prof. Deribile stressed.
The initiative is already yielding results, with notable progress including the furnishing of a new auditorium, completion of a four-story administration building, and partial finishing of a three-story lecture hall and office space. Additionally, a cafeteria at the West African Centre for Sustainable Real Transformation is complete, while a fire station and lecturers’ common room are underway.
Plans are also advancing to boost campus security and aesthetics through boundary walls, landscaping, and greening projects.
These improvements form part of a strategic vision to enhance academic quality, administration, and student life, cementing SDD-UBIDS’s status as a premier institution in northern Ghana.
