Former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Godfred Dame, has accused the John Mahama-led administration of strategically dropping high-profile criminal cases to shield its officials from accountability.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday, February 14, 2025, Mr. Dame criticized the government’s recent decision to discontinue several long-standing legal proceedings, arguing that it is a deliberate effort to absolve officials of the previous NDC government from wrongdoing.
His remarks follow the Attorney-General, Dr. Dominic Ayine's, move to drop seven cases involving former government appointees, a decision that has sparked debate over the government's commitment to fighting corruption.
While the A-G has defended the move by stating that the cases lacked sufficient evidence and were politically driven, Mr. Dame contends that the legal process should be allowed to proceed without interference.
He further expressed concerns that such actions set a troubling precedent in Ghana’s Fourth Republic.
