The convicted individuals—three teachers and a school administrator—were also ordered to sign a bond of good behavior for two years.

A Circuit Court in Kintampo has sentenced four individuals to 30 days in prison each for their involvement in examination malpractices during the just-ended Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Bono East Region.

The convicted individuals—three teachers and a school administrator—were also ordered to sign a bond of good behavior for two years. Two others, who pleaded not guilty, were remanded in police custody and are expected to reappear in court on July 2, 2025.

The court, presided over by Her Ladyship Amoah Kamkam Lily, heard that Diana Tii, a teacher at Krabonso D/A School, was caught distributing photocopied materials to candidates. Her accomplice, Sylvester, also a teacher, helped smuggle the papers into the exam hall. Both pleaded guilty with explanations and received 30-day sentences along with the bond.

Two staff members of Just Love International School—teacher Boi Edmond Merratro and administrator Samuel Waabero—were also convicted. They were caught solving questions in the school’s dining hall and were sentenced to 30 days in prison with hard labor.

In a related case, Paul Busi, a student of the Kintampo College of Health, was found with exam questions stored on his phone. He admitted guilt and showed remorse, earning him a fine of 100 penalty units (approximately GH¢1,200).

Meanwhile, Ms. Adjeiwaa, a fashion designer from Techiman, and Haruna Mohammed, a teacher at Kintampo Senior High School, pleaded not guilty and were both remanded into custody until their next court appearance.

Another accused, Sadique Abubakar—a teacher at Kintampo SHS—was granted bail of GH¢10,000 with two sureties after he was caught in possession of answers to the objective section of the Computing Paper 1.

Confirming the prosecutions, WAEC's Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, said the council welcomed the court’s actions and viewed them as a deterrent. He also hinted that WAEC would compile a list of implicated staff and forward it to the Ghana Education Service for possible disciplinary action.

Mr. Kapi added that further coordination with the police is underway to ensure speedy prosecution of other ongoing cases, expressing satisfaction with the legal process so far.
