Franklin Cudjoe has voiced his support for Richard Jakpa in the ambulance trial, alleging that Attorney General Godfred Dame acted under political pressure.

Franklin Cudjoe, Founder and President of IMANI Africa, has expressed his belief in the credibility of Richard Jakpa, the third accused in the ambulance trial, over Attorney General Godfred Dame.

Cudjoe asserted that Jakpa’s leaked recording, which implicates the Attorney General in alleged political pressure from President Akufo-Addo and former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, appears genuine. He criticized the Attorney General for purportedly pursuing the case against Cassiel Ato Forson under political duress, calling it a politically motivated and unfounded case.

Cudjoe’s comments came during an appearance on Citi TV’s "Big Issue" program. He emphasized his confidence in Jakpa's claims, arguing that the allegations of political interference in the judiciary are credible. Jakpa alleged that the Attorney General admitted the lack of a legitimate case against him but felt compelled to act due to political pressures.

Further, Cudjoe questioned why the Attorney General remains in his position despite these serious allegations. He expressed concern over the integrity of the justice system if such political influence is allowed to persist, pointing to the gravity of the situation as Ghana approaches elections.

Jakpa's affidavit, filed on May 30 in the Accra High Court, claims the Attorney General admitted to prosecuting Dr. Forson under pressure from high-ranking officials. The leaked tape has fueled public debate and calls for transparency and accountability within the legal system.

The ongoing controversy highlights the challenges facing Ghana's judicial independence and the potential impact of political pressures on legal proceedings. Cudjoe's strong stance reflects broader concerns about the misuse of judicial power for political ends.
