Ghana’s Supreme Court is set to examine a challenge filed by Kpandai MP Mathew Nyindam, after a High Court in Tamale nullified his 2024 parliamentary victory and ordered a fresh election.
The Commercial Division of the High Court delivered the ruling on 24 November 2025, siding with a petition brought by Daniel Nsala Wakpal, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate.
Mr Wakpal had alleged widespread irregularities during the 7 December 2024 poll, prompting the court to instruct the Electoral Commission to conduct a rerun within 30 days.
Although the High Court based its decision on what it described as material electoral breaches, Mr Nyindam argues that the judgment is fundamentally flawed.
His lawyers say the entire petition was filed out of time—32 days after the election results were gazetted—well beyond the 21-day limit prescribed under Ghana’s election laws.
They maintain that the late filing should have barred the High Court from hearing the matter at all.
Before being set aside, the declared results had shown the New Patriotic Party (NPP) incumbent securing:
27,947 votes (53.47%)
Against Mr Wakpal’s 24,213 votes (46.33%)
