The High Court in Amasaman has denied a bail application filed by the legal team of Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, as she seeks to appeal her recent conviction.
The application for bail came after Nana Agradaa was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment on July 3 by the Circuit Court in Accra, presided over by Justice Evelyn Asamoah. She was found guilty on charges of defrauding by false pretence and engaging in charlatanic advertisement.
Her legal team maintains that the trial was fraught with irregularities and that the judgment was harsh and unjust. A notice of appeal has since been filed, with lead counsel Richard Asare Baffour confirming on July 7 that a formal petition had been lodged with the High Court to overturn both the conviction and the custodial sentence.
Despite the High Court’s refusal to grant bail, Nana Agradaa’s legal representatives say they remain resolute and will continue to pursue the appeal through all available legal avenues.
The former traditional priestess-turned-evangelist has remained in custody since her sentencing.
