A 32-year-old illegal miner has been sentenced to two years of hard labor by the Tarkwa District Court One after being found guilty of unlawful entry, property damage, and theft.

The convict, identified as Amadu Amidu, also known as ‘Attah,’ admitted to all the charges brought against him and was convicted accordingly.

Presenting the case, Prosecutor Sergeant Enoch Assan-Donkoh informed the court, presided over by Mr. Charles Owusu Nsiah, that the complainant, Daniel Cobbinah, is a businessman residing in Cyanide, a community in Tarkwa.

According to the prosecution, on November 28, 2024, around 3:20 a.m., Cobbinah received a phone call alerting him that an individual had been spotted breaking into his drinking bar at the Tarkwa Railway Station.

Upon reaching the location, Cobbinah discovered a crowd gathered near his establishment and noticed that the trap door leading into the bar had been forcibly broken.

Sergeant Assan-Donkoh stated that with the assistance of some bystanders, Cobbinah entered the bar, apprehended Amidu, and escorted him to the Railway Station police post.

Further investigations revealed that the trap door, valued at GH¢500, had been damaged, along with four jackpot machines worth GH¢14,000. Additionally, coins amounting to GH¢800, which had been stored in the machines, were missing.

Following a formal complaint by Cobbinah, Amidu was taken into custody for further investigation. During questioning, the accused claimed that he had handed over the stolen coins to the complainant, a statement which Cobbinah denied. After a thorough inquiry, Amidu was charged and brought before the court, where he was sentenced accordingly.
