A pre-dawn gas explosion in Adum, a busy suburb of Kumasi, has left four people seriously hurt and receiving emergency care.

The incident occurred around 5 a.m. on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, when a food seller and her assistants were preparing meals for the day’s business.

Residents nearby said they were startled by a thunderous noise and rushed to the spot, where they discovered the injured victims. They were later transported to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for medical attention.

“The food vendor and her workers sell jollof rice, so they were preparing their food when the incident happened,” one eyewitness told reporters.

Another resident added:

“We are yet to understand what really brought the explosion so we immediately called on the Ghana National Fire Service who came to the rescue of the affected.”

The Fire Service is expected to conduct investigations to determine the cause of the blast.
