The Ghana Bar Association (GBA) has expressed strong disapproval of the post-election violence that has overshadowed the conclusion of Ghana’s 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
The Association condemned reports of violent acts, including gunfire, destruction of property, and the tragic loss of lives.
“These unwarranted deaths are a tragic reminder of the importance of peace during this critical period,” the GBA stated, extending its condolences to the bereaved families.
In its statement, the GBA urged all citizens to uphold the unity and harmony that have historically defined Ghana, calling for tolerance and mutual respect despite differing opinions.
The Association further appealed for an immediate cessation of all acts of lawlessness, such as property damage and unauthorized takeovers of offices.
“We appeal for calm and restraint as the nation transitions to a new administration,” the GBA urged.
The GBA also called on law enforcement agencies to respond swiftly and firmly to incidents of violence and disorder.
“All cases of infringement brought to their attention must be handled with dispatch,” the statement emphasised, stressing the importance of accountability and justice.
