The president of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA), Efua Ghartey, has called on members of the legal fraternity to remain vigilant as the proceedings to potentially remove the chief justice unfold, stressing the need for justice to be both done and visibly seen to be done.
Addressing the GBA's mid-year conference, Ms. Ghartey described the current process as a historic first in Ghana’s constitutional journey and emphasized the crucial role of the Bar in providing public education and ensuring accountability.
"Today, Ghanaians are engaged in discussions about the concept of a prima facie case, a reflection of the unprecedented nature of this process," she noted.
"We, as the Bar, must actively monitor developments and boldly share our views when necessary to uphold the principles of justice."
Beyond monitoring, Ms. Ghartey revealed that the GBA intends to spearhead efforts toward establishing clear and transparent procedures for the removal of Article 71 office holders, including members of the judiciary.
She concluded by affirming the GBA’s commitment to promoting fairness, transparency, and public trust in Ghana’s justice system.
