The training, organized in partnership with the Department of Gender, aimed to tackle important human rights issues, particularly those affecting vulnerable groups such as women and children.

The Women and Minors Rights Committee of the Ghana Bar Association(GBA) has educated residents of Nyive and Adaklu Torda, two farming communities in the Volta Region on their rights.

The training, organized in partnership with the Department of Gender, aimed to tackle important human rights issues, particularly those affecting vulnerable groups such as women and children.

Diana Dzifa, a private legal practitioner and the training team leader, spoke to the media after the event. She emphasized that “It is our duty to make sure women and minors not only know their rights but also understand how to defend those rights when they are at risk."

She added that the committee plays an active role in shaping legislation, ensuring that laws passed by Parliament provide adequate protection for these vulnerable groups.

The two communities were selected for the initiative due to the specific challenges they face, according to Dzifa, who added, "We plan to extend this program to other parts of the region in the future."

The training covered key legal subjects, including the interstate succession law and the Land Act's provisions.

Participants were highly engaged, sharing personal experiences related to inheritance and land rights challenges. The training offered them practical knowledge on protecting their rights in these areas.

Community members expressed their appreciation, highlighting how informative the sessions had been.

The Women and Minors Rights Committee remains committed to promoting legal education and advocating for rights, with plans to continue these workshops in other under-represented communities across the country.
