For the first time in the last fourteen(14) years, Ghana’s only professional law school, the Ghana School of Law has elected a female president to lead the Students Representative Council(SRC).

Emefa, who had very fierce and stiff competition from four(4) others, garnered a total of 698 votes representing 46.6 percent followed by a female contender, Emily Afriyie Mensah who came out with 452 representing 30 percent of the votes.

The other competitors are; Sixtus Don Ullo, a journalist, Farouk Mayonga, and Michael Osei Koranteng who placed 3rd, 4th, and 5th respectively.

This election, like the preceding ones, was premised and decided on who had sound policies for the betterment of the student body.

Gertrude, the president-elect, championed and campaigned on policy promises to make studies easier for students, shuttle systems to help with students’ transport, and the incorporation of self-check mechanisms to make the SRC more transparent and accountable.

Her victory is an indication of the swing the nation and the legal profession in particular, are having toward women in ensuring that women play a crucial part in all parts of governance, especially at the time when the nation has women leading key government positions including that of the Chief Justice.

Gertrude takes over from Mr. Odupong Agyapong Atta-Agyapong and would lead the student populace for the next academic year thus 2023/2024.
