In a statement released shortly after the announcement, the GBA emphasized the need for openness and strict adherence to legal standards in addressing what it described as a matter of serious national concern.
In the wake of the Chief Justice’s suspension, the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) has issued a strong call to President John Mahama, urging him to make public the complete decision that purportedly forms the basis for the action.
The suspension, which has stirred significant public and professional discourse, is seen by many as a critical test of the country’s commitment to constitutional due process.
The association insisted that the publication of the full prima facie determination would uphold precedent and ensure the integrity of Ghana’s judicial processes.
The association underscored that previous proceedings initiated under Article 146 of the Constitution have involved public access to such determinations, a practice which it says reinforces public accountability and faith in constitutional governance.
Reaffirming its dedication to the rule of law, the GBA appealed to all constitutional actors to uphold fairness and protect the rights of all parties involved.
It concluded by cautioning that judicial independence—a fundamental pillar of Ghana’s democracy—must be preserved and defended in both principle and practice.
