President John Dramani Mahama has ordered the immediate recall of Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed.
The Presidency announced the decision on 7 February 2026, after allegations of voter inducement during the NDC parliamentary primary in Ayawaso East, which Mr Baba Jamal won.
The statement said several candidates faced similar claims, but Mr Baba Jamal’s case was different because he was the only serving public officer in the contest.
The Presidency noted that the NDC has started its own internal probe into the allegations, and said the recall is not meant to interfere with that process.
Instead, it said the move is to protect the integrity of public office and avoid any appearance of wrongdoing under the government’s code of conduct for political appointees.
Mr Baba Jamal has defended the distribution of 32-inch television sets to delegates, saying it was not intended to influence voting.
The Foreign Affairs Minister has been directed to take the necessary steps to carry out the recall immediately.
